Aizu-nuri is a type of lacquerware made in the Aizu region of Fukushima Prefecture.
Its distinctive design and beautiful decoration are appealing.
The pattern known as Aizu-e combines pine, bamboo, plum and hamaya arrows, and has a softer expression due to the grooves carved more finely and shallowly than in other production areas.
Topcoating techniques include Sabi-urushi, Kinmushikui-nuri, Kijiro-nuri, and Hana-nuri, and require advanced skills.
