Wakasa lacquer / FUKUI
Gorgeous patterns born from simple materials
Wakasa lacquerware is made in the area around Obama city, Fukui prefecture.
Because they are resistant to water and heat, they have become popular as everyday items, and Wakasa lacquer chopsticks account for the majority of lacquered chopsticks produced in Japan.
In addition, since the work is not divided among different craftsmen, but rather one craftsman carries out all the processes in one go, the individuality of each craftsman is strongly expressed, which is another charm of Wakasa lacquerware.
Currently, research is being conducted into new designs that are in line with the times.
