Collection: Tsugaru Lacquer

Tsugaru Lacquer / AKITA
Traditional polished finish
Tsugaru lacquerware is traditional lacquerware from the Tsugaru region, centered around Hirosaki City in Aomori Prefecture, the northernmost lacquerware production area in Japan.
Tsugaru lacquerware has four representative techniques (Kara-nuri, Nanako-nuri, Nishiki-nuri, and Monsha-nuri) and is made based on these.
All techniques involve applying dozens of layers of lacquer and then polishing to create a finished product, and are traditional techniques that have been handed down unchanged for over 300 years.
