Hagi ware / YAMAGUCHI

The Seven Ghosts of Hagi

Hagi ware is characterized by its unique soft texture, achieved by using rough clay that is not fired tightly.
Because the clay is coarse, it has high permeability, water retention, and heat retention, and moisture penetrates through fine cracks on the surface that are created by the difference in shrinkage rates of the clay and glaze, reaching the inside of the vessel to the surface.
As a result of this penetration, the color of the vessel gradually changes with use, and it begins to take on an indescribable flavor known as "Hagi no Nanabake."
Feel the warmth the moment you pick it up.
