A rice tray is a handy supporting role on the dinner table. When you use a rice tray to make vinegared rice, the wood absorbs excess moisture, resulting in a delicious, light vinegared rice that lasts longer! Sawara is a wood with properties that are particularly suitable for rice trays. Kiso Sawara is one of the "Five Kiso Trees" in Nagano Prefecture that were protected as timber forests for Ise Shrine during the Edo period. These rice trays were carefully handcrafted one by one by local craftsmen. Although rice trays are not often used as a kitchen tool for vinegared rice, they are also wonderful as a "wooden vessel" to serve rice balls and small dishes.
